Dog Breeds: Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever, also known as simply Labrador or Lab, is one of several kinds of retrievers, a type of gun dog. Labradors are athletic, playful, and the most popular breed of dog. A favorite assistance dog breed in these and other countries, Labradors are frequently trained to aid people who are blind and people with autism, act as therapy dogs, and perform screening and detection work for law enforcement and other official agencies. The breed tends to shed hair twice annually or regularly throughout the year in temperate climates. Labrador hair is usually short and straight, and the tail is quite broad and strong. Labrador are low maintenance dogs as their coat needs to be brushed few times a week. Their average lifespan is about 12 years.

The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, medium-sized, short, a dog with a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation that enables it to operate as a hunting dog recovery, substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland for long hours in difficult conditions, the character and quality to win in the ring, and the temperament to be a family companion. Physical features and mental characteristics should denote a dog bred to perform as an efficient Retriever of game with a stable temperament suitable for a variety of activities beyond the hunting environment.

The most distinctive features of the Labrador Retriever are its short dense coat, weatherproof, an “otter” tail, a clean-cut head with broad back skull and moderate stop, powerful jaws, and its “kind,” friendly eyes, expressing character, intelligence and good temperament.

Above all, a Labrador Retriever must be well balanced, allowing it to move in the ring or work in the field with little or no effort. The typical Labrador possesses style and quality without over refinement, and substance without lumber or cloudiness. The Labrador is bred primarily as a gun dog work, structure and soundness are of great importance.
