WHY WE ARE PROTESTING PETWORLD - Northridge Fashion Center

We have proof that Petworld acquires their dogs
from irresponsible breeders. There is extensive documentation
that almost all pet stores acquire their puppies from
breeders who keep animals in cruel and
inhumane conditions, in the interest of maximizing profits.
Pet stores will tell you that they get their dogs from
reputable, private or home breeders; however, only commercial
breeding facilities can fulfill the demand.

Puppies sold at pet stores are more likely to have health
problems due to neglect, in-breeding, and over-breeding,
and many consumers are faced with significant veterinary
bills, or even the death of their puppy. **Most legitimate
breeder organizations say that responsible breeders would
never sell their dogs to pet stores. [**http://www.5stardog.com/dog-breeders.asp]

The puppies are marketed as “AKC certified” and/or “USDA
licensed.” Under the USDA Minimum Standard of Care, the
animals NEVER have to be let out of their cages and only
require 6 inches in front of them to turn around – for LIFE.
An AKC Registration is only a paper certificate that proves
that your dog is purebred, or an accepted breed (under AKC
guidelines). It does NOT guarantee the health or quality of
the dog or ensure that the breeder is reputable.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

There is a serious pet overpopulation crisis in our country.
In 2007, nearly one million cats and dogs ended up in California shelters. Approximately half were euthanized (killed) at a cost to taxpayers of over $250 million. Each year over 70,000 animals are euthanized in greater L.A. area
shelters. Stores like Petworld are adding to this crisis.

PLEASE BOYCOTT PETWORLD. Any money spent in this store supports and perpetuates a cycle of cruel treatment of animals. There are several pet supply stores nearby that do not sell animals from irresponsible breeders, as well as local
shelters and rescue groups with thousands of animals in
need of homes. [See flipside]
