http://pixvid.me/rightpet PetsPlusUs understands that the personalities of puppies and kittens are as varied as their owners. Choosing a pet, particularly when from a litter, offers some challenges. Remember to start the search early. Talk to breeders you know, or look online to find a breeder who expects a litter of the puppies or kittens you want. It’s important to note that selection of your pet is sometimes your decision, but sometimes it is that of the breeder. So you want to make sure that breeder has a good idea of your family dynamics, schedules, wants and needs. The more research you do, the more chance you’ll have to engage and select a pet from the litter, and the earlier you begin the search, the more choices you’ll have to pick from a litter.
Remember that just because one of the puppies charges out to meet you doesn’t mean they are the ideal match or that they have chosen you as their owner. That dominant personality may cause training and obedience challenges down the road. The one that cowers in the corner can also have certain obstacles to overcome on the way to adulthood. There are tests you can apply to find the best fit for your family. One test is to lay a puppy on its back and see if it stops struggling within 10 or so seconds. Another is to hold the puppy in your palm to see if they trust you while you hold them in this unstable position. Ideally, though, you’ll have multiple visits scheduled with your breeder so you can spend a lot of time with the different puppies, both inside and outside.
It’s absolutely necessary to bring your chosen pet to your own vet as soon as possible, ideally going straight from the breeder to the vet’s office. This way, if there is something wrong with your pet’s health, you will be able to exchange the pet for another one before you become emotionally attached.
